Progress on the
Bypass Bridge for Hoover Dam continues with completion of
the approaching highway roads from Arizona and Nevada and on
the side supports for the actual Bypass Bridge. The support
arch beneath the bridge is also now finished. The
support cables will soon be removed and additional columns
built on the arch to support the eventual road which will
cross above the arch connecting both sides of the canyon.
There is a completion date for the bridge expected in early
2010.

Good News - As of August 2009
Lake Powell at 90 plus % of
Capacity
With the increased snow pack
on the Western side of the Rocky Mountain Range again this last
winter, the water levels at both Glen Canyon Dam and Hoover Dam
will maintain a level above previous grim projections.
Lake Powell Concessionaires announced that the lake water
passage around Castle Rock is opened this summer due to
the anticipated rise in water levels from snow pack running from
the Colorado river into Lake Powell. They also dredged and
blasted to open this passage even deeper and with the rise in
water levels, Lake Powell reports a
90+ percentage in Lake level capacity with a current elevation
level holding at 3568ft.
We sure hope it snows
again like this on the Western Rockies in the coming winter as
this will have additional positive effects on lake water levels at both
Lake Powell and Lake Mead next year.
See you at the Lake...!!!

OVERTON BEACH
SERVICES ARE
CLOSED...!!

The lake level is dry all
across the Overton Beach Marina bay. This photo shows only
water flowing slowly from the Muddy & Virgin Rivers into Lake
Mead which is now just South of Ann Margaret Beach, North of
Stewart's Point. There are no current plans by the National Park
Service to re-open this Marina.
Use Echo Bay as an
alternate launch site
Note: Be aware that North
Shore Road is currently under construction in areas from South
of Echo Bay to just beyond the North side of Overton Beach.
Expect delays and very rough road conditions for several more
months during the road construction process. We've seen
several trailers with broken axles due to rough road conditions.
Use caution and slow down when driving North Shore Road to avoid
damage to your vehicles and/or trailers.

Hemmingway Harbor & Lake Mead Marina are
now accessible from the same road located just inside the
National Park near Boulder City & Hoover Dam. Both Marinas
have good launching and full services available.
Temple
Bar & Calville Bay Marinas are both open with good launching
available. Both Marinas also run a shuttle service on
weekends from the store to the lake side Marina for your
convenience.
