Sunset at Lake Mead

Progress on the Bypass Bridge for Hoover Dam continues with recent completion of the approaching highway roads and on the side supports for the actual Bypass Bridge. The support arch beneath the bridge has also been started on both sides and there is a completion date for the bridge expected in early 2010.

Good News - As of July, 2008

Lake Powell at 90 plus % of Capacity

With the increased snow pack on the Western side of the Rocky Mountain Range from this last winter, the water levels at both Glen Canyon Dam and Hoover Dam will maintain a level above previous grim projections.  Lake Powell Concessionaires announced that the lake water passage around Castle Rock has been re-opened this summer due to the anticipated rise in water levels from snow pack running from the Colorado river into Lake Powell.  Lake Powell reports a 90+ percentage in Lake level capacity with a current elevation level holding at 3363ft.

We sure hope it snows again like this on the Western Rockies in the coming winter as this will have a positive effect on lake water levels at both Lake Powell and Lake Mead next year.

See you at the Lake...!!!  Gary & Vanette

OVERTON BEACH SERVICES ARE CLOSED...!!

The lake level is dry all across the Overton Beach Marina bay.  This photo shows only water flowing slowly from the Muddy & Virgin Rivers into Lake Mead which is now just South of Ann Margaret Beach, North of  Stewart's Point.  There are no current plans by the National Park Service to re-open this Marina.

Use Echo Bay as an alternate launch site

****************************************

Hemmingway Harbor & Lake Mead Marina are now accessible from the same road located just inside the National Park near Boulder City & Hoover Dam.  Both Marinas have good launching and full services available.

Temple Bar & Calville Bay Marinas are both open with good launching available.  Both Marinas also run a shuttle service on weekends from the store to the lake side Marina for your convenience.

What's new at Lake Mead !!   What's new at Lake Mead !!   What's new at Lake Mead !!

We want to keep people updated on the latest information affecting Lake Mead and hope this helps you in planning your next trip to the beautiful Lake Mead National Recreation area. So check back often for the latest news and current events. See you at the Lake..!!!

****************************************************************

  • Launch conditions at ALL Lake Mead Marinas are constantly changing due to water levels and conditions.  Use caution when launching and lowering out-drives as damage can easily occur.  Use caution in and around shorelines and watch for new markers on the lake indicating new exposed land and islands.

  • Echo Bay, Temple Bar, Calville Bay, Lake Mead & Hemmingway Harbor Marinas are all open and have good launch conditions.  All Lake Mead Marina Concessionaires are doing a great job of maintaining launch ramps in spite of fluctuating water levels.  Come see what Lake Mead has to offer.  Some lake area depths are still over 300 feet deep providing deep, clean clear water, great for boating, fishing, skiing, wakeboarding or just relaxing on the water.  Come join us at Lake Mead for a really great summer of fun & sun.

  • OVERTON BEACH MARINA SERVICES ARE CLOSED...!!!!!   The launch ramp is now closed as the water level is less than 1 foot deep.  The resident National Park Ranger is maintaining only the portable restrooms now in the parking lot, the fish cleaning station & RV Dump Station.  There are no plans currently by the National Park Service to re-open this marina.

  • Fuel, ice, and other supplies on the Overton arm of Lake Mead can be purchased in the towns of Logandale & Overton or at Echo Bay Marina.  All services at Echo Bay Marina are open so plan to drive just 20 minutes South on the North Shore Lake Road and continue to enjoy all that Lake Mead National Recreation Area still has to offer.

  • As with all lakes, use caution when approaching any shore line as new islands and rocks are exposed due to normal changing water conditions and levels.

  • Reminder:  All children under age 12 are required by law to wear a Coast Guard approved life vest while riding in any size boat on Lake Mead.
